Emergency Consultants Group provides training and instruction in the areas of safety, confidence, and understanding human nature based on decades of expert’s research and first-hand life experience.

 

About Joel: 

Joel has 30 years of public service as a first responder.  From 1989-1991, Joel volunteered as an EMT for an ambulance service in Meridian, Idaho called Rescue 1. Upon graduating from the College of Idaho in 1990 with a B.S. in Zoology (pre-med) he spent 14 years as a police officer in Caldwell, Idaho.  His first 10 years in the patrol division were spent developing skills as a Crime Scene Investigator, Field Training Officer, Drug Recognition Expert, Tactical Response Team member and Commander (SWAT), School Resource Officer, Narcotics, DUI Task Force, and Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. Joel was involved heavily in Narcotics and Gang Investigations and Tasks Forces working closely with the prosecutors office, The DEA, FBI, U. S. Marshalls and ATF.  The next 4 years were spent as a Detective Sergeant and worked in major crimes including fraud, sex crimes, and homicides.  He was awarded Caldwell’s most physically fit police office 14 years in a row along with many awards and commendations for professionalism, bravery, and dedication.

Joel worked as a contract Personal Security Officer for the Federal Protection Agency under Homeland Security from 2005-2018 in Boise guarding federal building and judges.

Joel transitioned to the Boise Fire Department in 2006 as a Firefighter EMT, where he spent 12 of his 14 years on Truck 7 and currently still works.  He is also a member of the Technical Rescue Team which responds to high angle rescues, helicopter insertions and extractions, confined space, building collapse, heavy extrications and entrapments, and trench rescues. He is a member of the Peer Support Team and also teaches training classes on Leadership, Mental Health, and the importance of good quality sleep to firefighters. Joel has been recognized and awarded two ribbons for life saving incidents.

Joel has accumulated thousands of hours of training and experience in dealing with people in violent situations, knowing how criminals think and act, helping the injured and understanding human nature.  He is passionate about helping people stay safe and enjoys sharing what he has learned.  Joel has spent the last 30 years preparing, learning, studying, instructing, and refining techniques and principles to keep you safe.

He is also the co-owner of a CPR business and an AHA (American Heart Association) instructor.  They provide life saving medical training and has personally performed CPR on approximately 50 people during his time as a first responder. 

​

Joel has been married for 28 years to his wife Lisa and has two children Jace 22 and Shelby 20.
